Manage Fleet - Overview
Managing your fleet is a crucial part of any rental operation. The first part of the process is to import your bikes into BRM.
We use a spreadsheet to facilitate this process - for two main reasons:
- many people who do rental are very familiar with spreadsheets and often have their rental items already in a spreadsheet.
- its a very convenient way of entering lots of structured data into BRM.
Once you have imported your data into BRM you can then use BRM to manage day-to-day operational aspects of your fleet.
You can also make small updates to your fleet from within BRM (e.g. the status of bikes, even ID2's etc) - BRM will keep the spreadsheet in synch.
If you make large changes - like adding more bikes, or archiving bikes, you should do this via the spreadsheet.
The 3 main parts of fleet management within BRM are therefore:
- Asset Management
- Hierarchy Management
- Importing rental items
BUT - it is equally important to understand these 2 critical points:
- only make SMALL changes during your season (never radical changes) - or if you have lots of future rentals - then tidy up your fleet post-season.
- don't break the GOLDEN RULE or really bad things happen!
