what is the difference between 'safety check', bike prep, service entry and mechanic reservations?

Here are the 4 major concepts in maintenance:

  1. safety check.  This is something you do post-rental or pre-rental. Marking the bike as safe to ride.  You don't have a specific rental in mind.  But you do need to know its been done.
  2. bike preparation.  This is something you do pre-rental.  Marking the bike as safe and prepped.  You DO have a specific rental for which you do a preparation
  3. service entry.  Recording maintenance on a bike.  For example a 10 ride check-up.
  4. mechanic reservation.  Blocking out an item in the workshop while repairs are carried out / parts ordered.
