Using the 'order' column to control the order of your bikes

BRM will frequently display lists of bikes.  For example if you are making a booking and you start by selecting a category; it will display all the bikes in that category.  Or perhaps you have a large reservation, it will display all the bikes in the grid named 'assets in this reservation'.  By default BRM will simply display them according to the Asset ID of your bikes.

However sometimes this may not make sense, and you may want tighter control over the order in which your bikes are displayed.  This can be especially true if you've had a fleet in BRM for a couple of seasons, and they are starting to get 'jumbled up'.

To control the order in which your bikes are displayed in your lists, you will want to use the 'order' column, which is an optional column you can define in your fleet spreadsheet.
an example spreadsheet is shown here:

(if your spreadsheet does not have the order column, simply add it in (right click on the a column and "insert 1 left")

This is a powerful feature as it allows you to define a NATURAL order for your bikes, based simply on numeric order.

For example in the above example the list contains Child bikes, Hybrids and Tourers.  It even contains sizes like "L" and "17.5in".  It wouldn't be possible for BRM to make any sort of useful comparison on its own, so you simply give each bike a number in the order column, and it sorts according to that.  That way you can make a logical grouping of different CATEGORIES, and SIZES within those categories, even if the sizings are done differently (e.g. "L" and "47cm").

Note, that you can repeat numbers, in the above example each bike with a size of 47, is given an order of 47.
